Introduction to the Project
The goal of this project was to come up with a simple design for the school's retired 737, which is put on display outside of the school's hangar. The task of repainting the plane was going to be given to aviation students, and so a simple design was a must here, especially with the budget given for painting supplies.
This design was my simplest, aiming for painting parts that were already separated by the planes design. Though one might think painting the letters is difficult, we were informed by the aviation faculty that stencils for fonts and the Lewis logo were easily made with printers.
Though this design is also simple, painting stripes is slightly more tedious, as the they would have to do two coats of paint, one for the white and one for the red stripe. Nontheless, it is essentially still a simple design that would be quite doable for aviation students.
Conclusion
I hate to end this project description on a sad note, but unfortunately after all the work me and the other designers on our team put into coming up with ideas for the plane design, ultimately the marketing department decided to take over the project and hire professionals to paint the plane. It is, however, understandable, as they wanted to keep school branding consistent. Our designs were still presented in front of the committee that oversaw the project, and they along with our aviation department collaborators loved what we came up with.
